fantastic feasts and where to find them

If it’s true that art imitates life and our lives are nourished by food, then it’s only appropriate to consider our meals delicious masterpieces. For the longest time, I’ve acknowledged food as an essential part of my life. From watching Brad Leone test recipes on Bon Appétit magazine’s YouTube channel to simply staying close to the snack table to avoid unwanted conversation at parties, food has been both a source of entertainment and a haven.

I’m quickly realizing that while food is nourishment, it is also an aspect of diversity. To eat the cuisine of another person is to participate in that person’s culture. Food brings people of all backgrounds together, and it is within this social setting that ideas can be exchanged. I have learned about a refugee’s journey to the United States, an engineer’s excitement on a new design, and a student’s determination to finish Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Misérables, all why enjoying my favorite foods at the dinner table. It’s an instant connection we have with each other, regardless of our differing tastes and palettes.

Famous American chef Julia Child even claimed that people who love to eat are the best people. I’m sure we all agree. Many of my meals have led to laughter, big ideas, and lasting friendships.
